Conch Tour Station

After catching the sunset at Mallory Square, this shop kinda stood out for me. Without the tripod handy, it was a handheld series of shots. Kinda nice for us to be just tourists for a day. Enjoy.

poolside in Key West 2

Down in Key West now doing a quick site survey for a wedding in July combined with a short getaway with my little one. This was shot this evening poolside after dinner. I processed a 5 image HDR and then processed a raw file for the blue sky and part of the pool. Using them as 2 layers in PS3, I then brushed in what I wanted to show through...and, whaallla, instant garbage!
Thanks for viewing :)

Alone on the pond

Just a short hop over the bridge from my condo is the town of Palm Beach, a playground for the rich and famous. The Society of the Four Arts has a beautiful new garden...a nice quite oasis and getaway. I have just begun to explore all the details there. Enjoy.

Barn in North Carolina

The trip to North Carolina last year was anything but a vacation. It was an experience, however, a trip I would not have traded for anything in the world. I treasure the time I spent with my brother in law, my mother in law, and many others. I gave my extended family all the support I could. I miss Ernie........alot! I think we had a special connection. You see, he was my Father in law. After my own dad died, it was nice to be able to call someone else "Dad". God took him away from us and I miss him, like my own Father. I miss them both alot........Do yourself a favor...don't put it off, do it today. Hug your parents....., today....., or as soon as u can, call them....tell them you love them! Life is short....too short sometimes. Miss u dad!

Dolphin Hotel

Continuing with our random mage post week, check this out. This Hotel is called the Dolphin in Orlando. Its a very corporate event type hotel that I have worked in a few times. But really, The Dolphin.....OK.... Kinda looks like a carp to me. Dolphin no, wymsical fish, perhaps. Enjoy!

Dark skys in Sedona

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY! I think my theme this week is going to be "Random images from the last few months that I haven't posted yet" Man, that's an awkward name! Mike, really, thats the best u can do? I guess I am a little too beat to come up with anything catchier! Anyway, here we go.........

While on a site survey in Arizona a few months ago, I took a quick trip up to Sedona for a couple of days. Went out in search of photo locations and stumbled upon this park. Wish I had a few more days there!

Dinner tent on the beach

Here's a shot of the tent on the beach. I painted some sky texture in and a few other things.

Ceremony location

The ceremony was up on the mound off to the left. This is an infrared capture taken earlier in the day yesterday.

Day 2 wrapup

What a busy day! Today was the wedding on the beach, followed by cocktails at the spa lagoon, then dinner in the tent, and the after party in the ballroom. We were all over the place! Below is a sample of the images of the day.

Was it hot again? Of course it was! Silly question. This was a 3 shirt day. I mean, you walk right out of your room and your drenched! I don't remember it ever being this hot in May!

Anyway, its late and I am tired. Eric just checked in from the after party. All went well. Thanks you guys.....Eric, Sarah, and Dallas! I can always count on you to make me (us) look good. We are a small crew on this one, but a powerhouse foursome. A sincerely appreciate all your hard work. Also, its great working again with the DBS team. Everyone is in this one as a team. It is always a pleasure and a creative fulfillment to be a part of Sean's events. A humble thanks from me for letting us be a part of it.

Tomorrow is the last event. It is a Moroccan theme and should look really cool. Will post after it.

Mid day capture from a beach by the Cheeca Lodge

As the events were all being set up, I snuck off to a beach just to the south of the hotel and captured this Infrared shot. I created and enhanced the image with a texture I shot yesterday. It was nice to take a mid day break and chill in the AC. It was another hot one today!!! Feels like August in South Florida now. More images from the event to come soon.

Sweating from the roof

Just finished day one in the warm Florida Keys. The welcome party at the Theater by the Sea was a success. Was kinda hot and muggy today. By the way, it only takes an 11.5 amp blender plugged in by a sneaky bartender into an outlet that he thought was his to blow half of the lights on the event deck area here. Why you ask......well, cause there are about 16 outlets on the same breaker! Niiiice. Whats a gig without that 11th hour scramble to find an engineer, sweating I might add. Did I mention it was hot. As this was happening, the guests were treated to a private showing of the dolphin show here. I am pretty sure there were fans over there. Nice cool water mister type fans. Ahh the breeze....let's stop and enjoy. While the show was happening, we touched up the lighting and sorted out the power challenges over at the terrarium, I mean event deck. Like they say, never let'em see you sweat. Oh, I think I mentioned this already, it was a bit warm today. All right, no kidding, it felt like 106 degrees today. Sweltering heat, no breeze, you get the picture.

The following shots are from today. Didn't get alot of great ones as I was busy wiping the sweat from my camera. Seriously, did I mention it was hot? More on this event tomorrow!

Texture at the Keys

It was kind of a bland sky this evening. I realized as I was processing images this evening that I had taken a few close ups of rocks and other items that i could use as textures! Instant sky!

Dock off the Cheeca Lodge

The scene off of the beach of the Cheeca Lodge is such a peaceful one. After scouting around for some image capture sites, I had dinner down at the restaurant overlooking this long boat dock with Sean and Jennifer. Thank you both for the great company. Its always nice to get to the venue the night before, get the lay of the land, and unwind. The sky was jet black without all the light pollution that the mainland has....absolutely beautiful. We hit the ground running tomorrow in the AM. There is a lot to get done in one day, but I have a good feeling about this one already!

Off to the next event

Ok, well, not taking a train there though, but the image seemed appropriate. Heading to the Keys for a 3 day wedding. This one is supposed to filmed for a reality series based on weddings. Its not supposed to be a "good brides gone bad type of one, but a more upscale one. We are lighting several events for this one. More on all this later!

Red Boat on Lake Geneva

I tried something a little different here. I have been experimenting with textures. This one has at least 4 of them...all with different opacity's and saturation levels. I brushed and masked what I wanted and where I wanted it. Its not the greatest but figured I would post it. I like how it gives it a painting type of quality. More of these to come I am quite sure!

Honfleur harbor at night

This little port town or village in France is a gem. It is pretty close to Normandy on the coast of France. Very peaceful and tranquil at night, after the tour buses are gone!

A cool afternoon

A cool afternoon, originally uploaded by Photomike07.

This was taken with my converted D200 camera. It was converted by lifepixel. Takes a little work in photoshop swapping channels and working with contrast to create this. Enjoy!

Art at the Four Arts 2

This was taken at the Society of the Four Arts right over the bridge from my place. Didn't think I really had a good image until I played with it a bit.....actually, its still kinda lame I admit. I would have loved to get more separation on the upper right side. Next time, I'll wait for the clouds to reposition.

We are getting ready for a 3 day wedding we are doing lighting for in the Keys this weekend. Friday night is a welcome party, Saturday night is the ceremony, cocktails, dinner, then after party dinner, and Sunday night is the going away party. We have to light several areas including the Theatre by the Sea, a tent on the beach, a ballroom, a courtyard, and a pool area by the spa.

The design and decorating team is the same one we worked with in Arizona, so I should be capturing some great images! Although this event is not near as large, the attention to details will still be there. It is at nice location as well. A wedding in the Keys...no complaints here!
On a side note, if anyone happens to stumble upon this site, here's a bit of advice. Categorize your posts from the get go. I didn't really think I was gonna post much, and I have found myself posting at least once a day. I have found out that it is convenient to be able to click a category and find relevant posts. I am now slowly going back, a few a day, and tagging old posts before it gets too backlogged.
Anyway, more on all this later.

Entrance to the party

The guests to the Fisher Island event were greated by the dozens of tropical birds.....sleepy birds at this point.....around the incredible banyan tree. The fish eye lense kind of exaggerated the size a little, but it is huge! They were then invited to enjoy a nice "carpet" of soft lavender lighting that helped to create a path to the club. Enjoy!

I just wanted to mention a site that is on my daily visit. Steve LaRose is a freelance AV tech I have worked with quite a bit, a great photog, and, well, just a great all round guy. It is quite hilarious to follow him on escapades around the globe, in and out of hotels, planes, and ballrooms. He always seems to be getting worked...I mean severely worked over! Although I experience some of the same calamities in my related industry, I cant even come close to his wit. Check it out at http://slarose.blogspot.com/ The posts from Russia are really funny! I am even gonna put a link on my daily read list here. Enjoy!

Fischer Island - Lobby Banyon Tree

Fischer Island, originally uploaded by Photomike07.

This is the area just past the entrance to the club at Fischer Island. Two things about this one, it was created mid day, and the sound of all the parrots, cockatiels, and connures in the surrounding monster size cages was deafening. Enjoy :)

Fischer Island - Old World Stairway

We did an event at Fischer Island in Miami this weekend. All cars and trucks have to get there via ferry or barge. Decor was awesome as always with DBS as well as the whole team! Sean, sorry about your tree....nuff said there. What was that, a tornado that ripped thru? Jeeezz! I will post more this week I hope. This shot was a serious challenge because of people crossing the image path. Enjoy :)

Venetian Arches, originally uploaded by Photomike07.

This was another one captured when I "snuck out" of the loadin. Had a great crew on this one. My thanks to Jason and everyone at DAV. Another flawless show in the can. I didnt get a single picture of the set and lighting on this one. Too busy running outside I guess :)

Outside the Bellagio again

Outside the Bellagio again, originally uploaded by Photomike07.

I headed down the strip before load in yesterday and wanted to hit the conservatory inside the Bellagio. They always have some sort of incredible display there and I figured for spring and Mothers day, that would be the case. Well, not really. I was disappointed to find the whole area dismantled and in utter disarray. They were changing the decor and whole display around. Dozens of crew in hardhats, tools every where, bucket lifts......it was a mess. Looked like one of our huge loadins minus the dirt! I took this just outside of the lobby with, of course, the fisheye.

Start of the Journey

I've been kind of over using the fisheye lense recently, but this one works for me. There are a lot of curves working together to pull you through the picture.

The Venetian in Vegas

During a quick break from the load in at the Venetian today, I snuck away from the crew to get a few shots. What you can't see in the frame are the zillions of tourists.

This was taken in Hendersonville, NC about 8 months ago. I haven't captured anything in Vegas so far except for some pictures of the Cher show out here that I took with my Iphone. Hopefully after the load in later.

Mid Day Imageless Post

Sitting comfortably in the Atlanta airport, I reluctantly await to board my flight to Vegas....my middle seat of a totally full flight to Vegas.....I might add. Man, there's alot of overweight people in this seating area. I'm scared!

Happy Mothers Day!

I've been spending a little time, well, maybe more than a little time....all right WAAAYY TOO MUCH TIME trying to get a nice word-press theme. I have, however, successfully uploaded word-press it to my server, configured it correctly, and connected a flickr account to it. I then exported this blog over to it. This all took a little time, but it was quite fun. I am, however, looking to display larger images on the blog. Is that too much to ask? I have searched a bagillion themes, maybe even a maquillion, and can't find what I want. Anyone have any suggestions? I think that I am going to have to design one or modify one. More on that later. Anyway, this blog theme and address on blogger will have to do for now. I gotta shift gears and focus tomorrow and get a few things done. I head to Vegas on Tuesday for a show and am there till Friday, then head to Miami for a wedding thru Saturday. Should make for some awesome images! I am sure I will be posting along the way. For now, here is a IR shot of a cactus garden from Arizona last month.

Chasing the light

As I noticed the sun brazing some unanticipated soft golden lighting across the courtyard at the Prado, I scrambled to grab my Nikon D3 and head out to get a shot or 2. This is at the Society of the Four Arts just over the bridge in Palm Beach.

Preservation Garden

Here is a shot of a garden over in Palm Beach that is part of the Preservation Foundation (I think). It is an HDR of a raw infrared that was then adjusted in photoshop. I was trying to get a cyan sky with white trees and then the wood tone on the trellis, and well, I got this. Not what I originally wanted, but I kinda like it.

Infrared from MaraLago

I captured a few infrared shots from MaraLago when I was there and have been messing around with them. I have a color infrared conversion done on my D200, which opens up alot of possibilities when processing in photo shop. I am still trying to figure it all out to be honest. Here is an image right out of the camera and then, the processed version. Levels adjustments, color channel swapping, and contrast adjustments were done. Then finally, a slight vignette to finish it off.
